Principal's Message

March 2018

Dear Palomares Families,

Cooperation is our character trait for the month of March. Here are some ideas on how you can help your child foster an appreciation for cooperation in your child. Help them recognize opportunities to cooperate. Share personal stories about experiences where cooperation was important to your work or a situation. Model cooperation by providing opportunities for your family to work together on a project. Provide toys and games that promote cooperation. Encourage your child to help with daily chores. And be sure to reinforce cooperative behavior with positive reinforcement such as praise and hugs!

Odyssey of the Mind

Our Odyssey of the Mind Team is a wonderful example of cooperation and team spirit.  Our student team (Alek, Alessandro, Elena, Farah, Gabby M, Gabby Z and Jared) will be participating in the tournament tomorrow in Concord!  SOAR! Thank you Coach Dasha Mizinova and Coach Tom Zarembinski for being the team’s coaches. I am so proud of our Palomares Hawks!

Report Cards

On March 22nd, your child will be coming home with their second trimester report card.  This is a great opportunity to celebrate their progress and set new goals for the last trimester of school.  You may also be receiving a letter requesting a parent/teacher conference during the first week of April.  During this conference your child’s teacher will review progress and update or develop a learning plan to support your child’s academic success.

Film Series

Castro Valley Community Alliance, in partnership with the Castro Valley Library, will be showing a documentary, The Resettled on Sunday, March 10th from 2 – 4 pm.  This 30 minute documentary is about the international refugee crisis and shares the stories of refugees who are building new lives in America.  A panel discussion will follow the viewing of the film.

Open House

Come join us for our Open House on March 28th from 6 – 7 pm. This is a time to take a look at the wonderful learning that has been taking place in classrooms. Your child will be proud to show you around their classroom! I look forward to seeing you!
