Principal's Message

Dear Palomares Families,

Thank you!

Thank you Board Vice President Gary Howard and Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, Dr. Jason Reimann for visiting our school in March. We always enjoy being able to share the wonderful learning that is taking place at our school.  Palomares appreciates the ongoing support and encouragement from our school Governance Team and district office personnel.

Thank you to our amazing students and teachers for a wonderful Open House event! I continue to be so proud of the work our Palomares Hawks do on a daily basis.

Thank you to Mrs. Kim Thompson, Mrs. Desiree Fanucchi and our parent volunteers who helped make our Fine Arts Day a special experience for students. Thank you also to the artists from Sun Gallery for taking the time to share their expertise with us and to the Hula Ikaika Ohana ‘O ka’awai dance company for the amazing performance!

Perseverance

Perseverance is our character trait for the month of April. Have you heard the term “grit”? Angela Lee Duckworth defined grit as “perseverance and passion for long term goals.” According to Duckworth, grit can be a better indicator of graduation rate predictions. Here are a few ways to help teach our children perseverance/grit. Provide challenging activities that are not easily achieved.  Remember that it is okay if your child gets frustrated sometime and it’s important to remind them that it is okay to fail  Be sure to offer specific praise and encouragement for your child’s strong effort and for completion of their goals.  In this month’s Counseling Corner (in this Post It), Ms. Tet, our counseling intern, shares more ideas on how to teach our children perseverance.

Cheers to Ms. Catarata!

Congratulations to Ms. Catarata for being our Site Teacher of the Year! Ms. Catarata serves as our Resource Specialist. We are very fortunate to have her as a teacher at Palomares.
