Principal's Message

March 2020

Dear Palomares Families,

Cooperation is our character trait for the month of March.  Here are some ideas on how you can help your child. Foster an appreciation for cooperation in your child. Help them recognize opportunities to cooperate. Share personal stories about experiences where cooperation was important to your work or a situation. Model cooperation by providing opportunities for your family to work together on a project. Provide toys and games that promote cooperation. Encourage your child to help with daily chores. And be sure to reinforce cooperative behavior with positive reinforcement such as praise and hugs!

March is Women’s History Month

March is the time to recognize and honor the lives and achievements of women in history. This began in the 1980’s as Women’s History Week but has since expanded to the entire month of March. This is a great time to discuss with our children about important women in history. Read books about women who made big contributions to our world. Have your child interview an important woman in their life. Donate money or time to a local women’s organization. Have your child write a letter to a woman they admire. For more information, visit

Report Cards

On March 13th, your child will be coming home with their second trimester report card. This is a great opportunity to celebrate their progress and set new goals for the last trimester of school. You may also be receiving a letter requesting a parent/teacher conference. During this conference your child’s teacher will review progress and update or develop a learning plan to support your child’s academic success.

ELPAC testing

Our English Language Learners have started ELPAC (English Language Proficiency Assessments for California) testing. All K -5th grade students who are identified as being an English Learner will be assessed. The testing window ends March 26th

Parent Academy

Our counselor, Ms. Trudy Hy will be presenting at our next Parent Academy on March 11th. The topic will be Growth Mindset and how we can help our children develop a growth mindset when learning vs. a fixed mindset. I encourage your attendance and hope you can join us. Childcare will be provided.

Keep spreading your wings and SOAR!
